Managing Categories

Categories in Think Crew provide the organizational structure for your production elements. Effective category management helps streamline your workflow and keeps your production data organized. This article covers how to create, customize, and manage categories.

Creating New Categories

To add a new category to your project:

  • From inside a schedule, in the file menu click “Manage / Categories”
  • Select the “+” button
  • Enter a name for your new Category

Category Type

Each default category has a matching category type. If you create new categories you should determine if they fit into any of the existing category types.

Besides giving your category a name, you can also identify what type of category it is. This is a part of the Universal Schedule Standard and helps identify the type of elements that belong to this category. For instance, you could name the actor’s category ‘Cast’ or ‘Talent’, but when exporting your data, other systems will want to know that the category is filled with actors, regardless of what you call it.
Try to ensure that each type is unique to a single category. Multiple categories with the same type can cause conflicts.

Well-organized categories form the backbone of an efficient production management system in Think Crew, making it easier to track and schedule all production elements.
