# Managing Panes (Tab Pane System)

Think Crew's tab pane system lets you arrange your schedule workspace however you like. Your screen is divided into panes, and each pane holds one or more tabs, such as your boards, the breakdown pane or the Day Out of Days. You can move tabs between panes, split panes to see more at once, and resize them to fit the way you work.

## Understanding Panes and Tabs

A **pane** is an area of the screen. Each pane has a row of **tabs** along its top, and shows the content of the selected tab below. Click a tab to switch to it.

The tabs you can work with are:

- **Boards:** One tab for each board in your current scenario, named after the board. See [Working with Boards](https://help.thinkcrew.com/knowledgebase/working-with-boards/).
- **Recycle Bin:** Strips you've removed from your boards. See [Recycle Bin](https://help.thinkcrew.com/knowledgebase/recycle-bin/).
- **Breakdown:** The details of the selected strip. See [Adding Data to a Breakdown](https://help.thinkcrew.com/knowledgebase/adding-data-to-a-breakdown/).
- **Elements:** The elements in your schedule. See [Working with the Elements Pane](https://help.thinkcrew.com/knowledgebase/working-with-the-elements-pane/).
- **Script:** The script scene linked to the selected strip. See [Linking Breakdowns to Scenes](https://help.thinkcrew.com/knowledgebase/linking-breakdowns-to-scenes/).
- **Dood:** The Day Out of Days. See [Day Out of Days Overview](https://help.thinkcrew.com/knowledgebase/day-out-of-days-overview/).

Because boards are tabs, you can place two boards in separate panes to see them side by side, for example to drag strips from one board to another. See [Drag and Drop Scheduling](https://help.thinkcrew.com/knowledgebase/drag-and-drop-scheduling/).

The pane you last clicked is highlighted with a darker border.

## Starting From a Pane Group

The quickest way to set up your workspace is to choose a pane group, a ready-made layout for a particular task. Click the "Panes" dropdown at the top right of the schedule, or open "Pane Groups" in the "Window" menu. See [Pane Groups](https://help.thinkcrew.com/knowledgebase/pane-groups/).

You can then fine-tune the layout using the steps below.

## Rearranging Tabs

Drag a tab to move it:

- **Reorder tabs:** Drag a tab left or right along its pane's tab row
- **Move a tab to another pane:** Drag the tab onto another pane's tab row

If you move the last tab out of a pane, that pane closes and the other panes expand to fill the space.

## Splitting Panes

To create a new pane, drag a tab onto the content area of any pane. As you drag, highlighted drop zones appear:

- **Left or right edge:** Splits the pane side by side, with your tab in a new pane on that side
- **Top or bottom half:** Splits the pane top and bottom, with your tab in a new pane above or below

Let go of the tab over the zone you want. You can split panes as many times as you like to build your own layout.

## Resizing Panes

Drag the divider between two panes to make one larger and the other smaller. For example, drag the divider above the Day Out of Days pane upward to see more of it.

## Adding Boards

When you add a board to your current scenario, a tab for it is added automatically. To add a board, click the "Window" menu and choose "New Board Pane", or use the Scenario Manager. See [Managing Schedule Scenarios](https://help.thinkcrew.com/knowledgebase/managing-schedule-scenarios/).

When you switch scenarios, the board tabs change to show that scenario's boards.

## Saving and Resetting Your Layout

Think Crew remembers your layout automatically, including your tab arrangement and pane sizes. The next time you open the schedule, your panes are exactly as you left them.

Layouts are saved for each schedule, so you can set up each one differently. They're saved in your browser on this device, so if you open the schedule on another computer or in another browser, you'll start from your pane group's original layout.

**To reset your layout,** choose a pane group from the "Panes" dropdown, even the one you're already using. Your panes go back to that pane group's original arrangement and sizes. Choosing a different pane group also replaces your current layout, so set up your favorite arrangement after you've chosen your pane group.

Here's a video tutorial on the tab pane system:

The tab pane system lets you build a workspace that matches your workflow. Experiment with different arrangements to find what works best for your scheduling process.
