Day Out of Days Overview

2 min read

The Day Out of Days report (commonly abbreviated as DOOD) is an essential production planning tool that provides a comprehensive overview of when each element (typically cast members) is working throughout your production schedule.

What is a Day Out of Days? #

A Day Out of Days report shows the working status of each element across your entire production schedule. For each element, the report displays:

  • Work (W): Days when the element is scheduled to work
  • Hold (H): Days when the element needs to be available but may not work
  • Start (S): First working day for the element, always use in combination with work
  • Finish (F): Last working day for the element, always use in combination with work
  • Drop (D): When an element is no longer needed after their last day, always use in combination with work
  • Pick-Up (P): When an element returns after a period of not working, always use in combination with work

Benefits of the Day Out of Days #

The Day Out of Days report offers several key benefits to your production:

  • Visualize the entire working schedule for all elements at once
  • Identify scheduling conflicts or inefficiencies
  • Optimize talent schedules to minimize costs
  • Track continuous days, worked days, and total span for each element
  • Aid in budget planning and resource allocation
  • Communicate clear working schedules to cast, crew, and other stakeholders

Using Day Out of Days Effectively #

To make the most of the Day Out of Days report in Think Crew:

  1. Keep your breakdown data accurate and up-to-date
  2. Regularly review the report as your schedule evolves
  3. Use the filtering options to focus on specific categories or elements
  4. Export the report to share with department heads or other stakeholders
  5. Consider both grid and calendar views for different perspectives

The Day Out of Days report is a crucial tool for efficient production management, helping you optimize schedules, control costs, and ensure smooth operations throughout your production.
