Once your Day Out of Days is ready, the next step is usually the budget. Copy Dood Totals to Clipboard copies each element’s total number of days in a simple table that you can paste straight into a budget or spreadsheet, so you don’t have to retype your cast days by hand.
Copying the Totals
- Open your schedule and set up the Day Out of Days the way you want it. Choose the category, such as Cast, and the board. See Selecting a Category and Board.
- Click the “Edit” menu in the schedule menu bar
- Select “Copy Dood Totals to Clipboard”
A “Copied to clipboard” message lets you know the totals are ready. Now paste them into your budgeting software or spreadsheet.
What Gets Copied
The totals are copied as a table with one row for each element and four columns:
| Column | Contains | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | The element’s ID number and name | 1. JOHN |
| 2 | The element’s total from the Day Out of Days | 12 |
| 3 | The unit: “Day” or “Days” | Days |
| 4 | A multiplier of 1 | 1 |
This matches the Amount, Units and multiplier (X) columns used on the detail lines of budgeting software such as Movie Magic Budgeting. Add each actor’s rate after pasting, and your cast budget is ready.
The total comes from the last totals column in your Day Out of Days, which is usually Total. To change your totals columns, see Managing Totals Columns.
Choosing Which Elements Are Copied
The copy uses your current Day Out of Days settings:
- Category and board: Only elements from the category shown in the Day Out of Days are copied, using the days on the chosen board
- Solo: If you’ve soloed some elements, only those elements are copied. This is a handy way to copy just a few cast members. See Solo Elements.
- Episodes: If you’ve limited the Day Out of Days to one episode, only that episode’s elements are copied. See Episodes.
Elements are copied whether or not they work. Those that don’t work have a total of 0, so you can easily spot and delete them after pasting.
Pasting the Totals
The totals are copied as both a table and plain text, so they paste neatly into most programs:
- Spreadsheets such as Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets: Each value goes into its own cell
- Budgeting software: Paste into the detail lines of the account you’re budgeting, such as Cast
- Documents and email: The totals paste as a simple table
Copying the Whole Day Out of Days
To copy the full Day Out of Days grid instead of just the totals, click the copy button in the Day Out of Days menu bar (“Copy grid to clipboard”). The whole grid, including each day’s status, is copied so you can paste it into a spreadsheet. For a printed version, see Printing the Day Out of Days.
Copy Dood Totals to Clipboard turns your schedule into budget numbers in seconds, so your budget and schedule always stay in step.
