Import & Export Schedules

Think Crew can import and export schedules in several industry-standard formats, so you can bring in work from other scheduling software, hand a schedule off to another department, or keep a backup of your work.

Supported Formats

Format Import Export
Movie Magic Scheduling (.mmsx) Yes Yes
Movie Magic Scheduling 6 (.msd) Yes Yes
Universal Schedule Standard (.uss) Yes Yes
Cinapse (.cinapse) Yes Yes
Casper (.xlsx) No Yes
Generic Export (Excel .xlsx or CSV .csv) No Yes

Importing Schedules

To import a schedule:

  1. Go to the Schedules page in your project
  2. Click the “Import” button in the menu bar to open the import panel. If you’re inside a schedule, you can also press Shift + Ctrl/Cmd + I.
  3. Drag your file into the drop zone, or click the drop zone to choose a file from your computer
  4. Click “Import”

Think Crew creates a new schedule in your current project, including its breakdowns, categories, elements, boards and calendars. Larger files may take a few moments to import. A message will let you know when the import is complete.

Each file must be smaller than 5MB.

Tip: After importing, open the new schedule and check that your strips, elements and calendar look the way you expect, especially when importing from another program.

Exporting Schedules

You can export a schedule from the Schedules page or from inside the schedule itself.

From the Schedules Page

  1. Go to the Schedules page in your project
  2. Click the “Select” button, then check the schedules you want to export. You can export more than one schedule at a time.
  3. Click the “Export” button in the menu bar

You can also right-click a schedule’s card and choose “Export schedule”.

From Inside a Schedule

Click the “File” menu in the schedule menu bar and select “Export…”, or press Shift + Ctrl/Cmd + X. This exports the schedule you’re working in.

Choosing Your Export Options

In the export panel, choose an Export Type. The options that follow depend on the type you choose:

  • Movie Magic Scheduling (.mmsx) and Movie Magic Scheduling 6 (.msd): Exports your breakdowns and schedule for use in Movie Magic Scheduling
  • Universal Schedule Standard (.uss): Choose the Included Data, either “Breakdowns & Schedule” or “Breakdowns only”
  • Cinapse (.cinapse): Exports your breakdowns and schedule for use in Cinapse
  • Casper (.xlsx): An Excel spreadsheet laid out for import into Casper
  • Generic Export (.xlsx): A spreadsheet with one row per breakdown and a column for each category, for use in Excel, Google Sheets or other tools

When you’re ready, click “Export”. Your file downloads to your computer, named after the schedule.

Generic Export Options

The Generic Export has a few extra options:

  • File Format: Excel (.xlsx) or Comma Separated (.csv)
  • Breakdown Order: Order the rows by scene number, or in the order they appear on a board. If you choose “Order by a board”, select the Scenario and Board to use. This option is only available when you’re exporting a single schedule.
  • Category Order: Use your current category order, or the Casper category order
  • Board IDs: Choose how cast members appear: with their board ID numbers and names, with just their names, or with just their board ID numbers

Note: Exporting requires an active subscription or a team account. Importing requires permission to edit the project.

Importing and exporting make it easy to move your work between Think Crew and the other tools your production uses, so everyone can work from the same schedule no matter which software they prefer.
